In this chapter the Aristotelian conception of the economic science will be explained. First, the notion of oikonomike will be introduced. Then, it will be determined whether Economics was a science for Aristotle. In the third place, it will be analyzed what kind of science, within Aristotle’s classification, Economics is. The characteristics of practical sciences will then be displayed. Finally, the consequences of Economics being a practical science for Aristotle will be deduced. The present study both relies on Aristotle’s textual analysis and interpretation of his thought in a sort of translation of his teachings to today language and application of them to today Economics.en_US
