¿Por qué minimizamos el dolor de los recién nacidos? Mitos en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales
Abstract
The advent of intensive neonatal care and the ad-
vancement in technology applied to the recovery
of the newborn, have allowed the infants to survive
more and more with a lower gestational age and
weight. This implies that those who were not previ-
ously compatible with life are now patients in the neo-
natology unit. In order to face extrauterine life they
must undergo numerous procedures, endotracheal
intubations, catheter placement, blood extractions,
surgeries and wounds care, which have one element
in common: they all produce pain.
This article addresses the myths that nursing profe-
ssionals have regarding pain, which prevent the nur-
sing care plan from being prevented, detected and
treated. Approximate the use of detection scales, and
their treatment by non-pharmacological and pharma-
cological means.
